KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia International Healthcare (MIH) Megatrends 2024, which kicks off today, is set to bring together global healthcare leaders, professionals, innovators and policymakers to explore groundbreaking advancements, exchange knowledge and forge partnerships aimed at elevating the quality, accessibility and sustainability of healthcare.

KPJ Healthcare Berhad President and Managing Director Chin Keat Chyuan said among others, the event focuses on leveraging advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, to enhance predictive, preventive, and precision medicine.

“The main purpose for MIH Megatrends is to provide a platform, allowing all the stakeholders, namely the physicians, the hospitals, the pharmacies, and the entire ecosystem, to come together to exchange knowledge and, more importantly, bring up the key learning from here to the next level.

“So ultimately, what we want to achieve is to advance healthcare to the next level for the benefit of our patients,” he told reporters at the KPJ booth at MIH Megatrends here today.

Chin said the event featured more than 100 exhibitors, including government agencies and private sectors and it has garnered over 1,500 participants.

The three-day event, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, will be officiated by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, tomorrow, with the opening address by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkelfy Ahmad.

Commenting on the collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), as well as various industry stakeholders, Chin said the event marks a pivotal moment in the realisation of public-private partnerships (PPP) in Malaysia.

He said the ultimate goal of the event is to showcase Malaysia's advancements in healthcare to a global audience, with the upcoming chairmanship of the ASEAN chapter next year providing an ideal platform to highlight the country's progress and innovations in the region and beyond.

On the technological front, he said KPJ is already implementing advanced solutions such as robotic-assisted surgeries including total knee replacements and minimally invasive cardiac procedures, adding that these innovations underscore the commitment to enhancing patient care through both technology and soft skills training.

Meanwhile, Chin said KPJ is actively investing in AI and robotic technologies to elevate the standard of care and integrate clinical services with education and research, aiming for an academic health system.

He said this comprehensive approach prioritises patient value and experience while striving for sustainable healthcare operations.

Meanwhile, MOH Secretary-General Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad in her opening remarks today, highlighted the importance of collaboration in driving healthcare forward and this set the stage for a series of impactful discussions and presentations that underlined the potential for future-ready healthcare solutions in Malaysia.

Key sessions on the first day featured distinguished speakers, including Dr Tullawat Pacharapha, Chief Operating Officer of Vejthani Hospital, Thailand, who discussed healthcare transformation and patient care, and Professor Meong Hi Son, Medical Information Officer at Samsung Medical Centre, South Korea.

These sessions collectively emphasised the importance of innovation in enhancing patient outcomes and streamlining healthcare delivery.

Beyond professional discussions, MIH Megatrends 2024 offers a dynamic experience for the public. The Action Hub invites visitors to interact with health influencers and experience the latest product demos, while the Innovation Health Tech Zone showcases digital advancements like AI-driven healthcare and telemedicine.

Public activities include health screenings, blood donation and holistic wellness consultations, with family-friendly activities such as educational projects in the Kids Zone and appearances by Didi & Friends, ensuring the event is engaging for all ages.
