ARAU, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, emphasised the crucial role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in addressing the demands of the job market in today’s rapidly evolving landscape.

His Royal Highness said that TVET is instrumental in producing skilled workers across various technical fields, prioritising the development of practical skills, which significantly enhance productivity and drive innovation.

“(The) Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Polytechnic (PTSS) is one of the TVET institutions which focuses on the development of technical and professional skills, which are the foundation for the country's economic excellence.

“The theoretical and practical skills possessed by graduates can also be applied in the employment sector,” said His Royal Highness, in conjunction with the PTSS 16th Convocation Ceremony, at Dewan Harumanis, PTSS, here, today.

His speech was read by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail. Also present was Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and Polytechnic and Community Colleges Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Zahari Ismail were also in attendance.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin emphasised that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) serves as a gateway to numerous career opportunities for young individuals who may opt out of traditional academic pathways.

“This can create more opportunities, and reduce the unemployment rate among the youth. Congratulations to PTSS, which has played a significant role in producing these quality graduates.

“Polytechnic graduates in general, and PTSS in particular, form the backbone of the country's progress in various technical fields. As TVET graduates, you are unique and invaluable contributors to the workforce.

In addition, the Raja of Perlis noted that the knowledge and skills acquired at PTSS equip graduates, not only to become proficient workers, but also to emerge as innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders within their respective industries.

“Knowledge has been instilled, skills have been imparted, and now it is the responsibility of all graduates to drive positive change in the country.

“I also urge everyone present here to collaborate in fostering a culture of knowledge, thereby elevating the status of educational institutions, particularly in the State of Perlis,” he said.

The convocation ceremony, which will take place in three sessions from today until Tuesday, honours 1,155 diploma, foundation and certificate graduates, in various TVET fields, who completed their studies in 2023 and this year.

At the first session of the convocation ceremony, the Raja Muda of Perlis presented a posthumous award to the family of Muhammad Zarif Aidy Mohamad Zahir, a Mechanical Engineering Diploma graduate who was killed in a road accident on May 18.

Additionally, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra presented the Royal Award to Tourism Management Diploma graduate, Lok Mee Wan.
