Audit Dept's MADANI Initiative Delivers: Kampung Masjid Sees Significant Upgrades

LARUT, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Ten upgrading projects undertaken by the National Audit Department (JAN) via the Kampung Angkat MADANI programme in Kampung Masjid, Ijok, here were completed last month.

Auditor-General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi said the projects, which cost RM2.5 million, included the construction of a school hall, the installation of solar lights, and the upgrading of facilities at a mosque, as well as public facilities such as business spaces, futsal courts, playgrounds, and drainage systems.

"As the Auditor-General, in my view, this kind of planning is very effective in verifying that government funds are spent according to their objectives and implemented efficiently and for public benefit.

"The success of the Kampung Angkat MADANI project proves that the government's concern in looking into difficulties faced by villages, with department heads going down the ground, ensures problems can be resolved more efficiently," she said at the launch of Kampung Angkat MADANI programme at Kampung Masjid, Ijok, here today.

Present were Perak Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun and State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim.

In addition, Wan Suraya hopes that all concerned parties, including state agencies, will take responsibility for maintaining and looking after facilities in the best possible way.

"I have found many audit issues regarding poor project management or development work due to weaknesses in maintenance management and enforcement which cause the objective of providing facilities for the people to benefit from not being achieved," she said.

Meanwhile, Sekolah Kebangsaan Haji Wan Jaafar headmaster Mohamad Hasan Bakri, 54, said the newly constructed hall will benefit students in their school activities significantly.

“We can extend certain activities without being affected by rain and heat. In addition, alhamdulillah with the hall, it is easier for the school to manage students' safety," he said.

On July 6, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim instructed the Cabinet and the Chief Secretary to the Government to select native villages or other villages to be adopted to ensure development is not concentrated in urban areas only.
