SHANGHAI, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and China Media Group (CMG) exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, marking a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing media collaboration between Malaysia and China.
The MoU exchange took place in conjunction with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to China, scheduled from Nov 4 to 7, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Bernama was represented by its CEO Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, while CMG by China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing. The exchange ceremony was witnessed by Anwar and Li Qiang, after bilateral talks between the two leaders.
Nur-ul Afida noted that the MoU represents a pivotal milestone for BERNAMA as it broadens its regional and global reach, especially with Malaysia set to assume the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.
Bernama is well positioned to expand its coverage of ASEAN activities throughout the year, in turn, offering CMG access to insightful ASEAN-related content.
“The MoU offers an opportunity for content exchange and media training, reinforcing both agencies’ roles in disseminating news and cultural information,” she said, adding that media exchanges have been fundamental in promoting Malaysia-China relations.
Bernama anticipates benefiting from CMG's vast resources and expertise in media technology, especially in the digital sphere.
“This collaboration aligns with BERNAMA's vision to leverage digital innovation, enhancing its role as Malaysia’s leading news and media content provider,” she added.
Moreover, the MoU holds additional significance as it aligns with the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Malaysia-China diplomatic ties, symbolizing deepening collaboration.
At the same ceremony Prime Minister Anwar and Premier Li Qiang also witnessed the exchange of documents between Malaysia and China relating to Belt and Road Initiative, underscoring the growing ties between the two nations.
