JAKOA Provides Solar Power For Orang Asli Still Without Electricity

06/11/2024 06:02 PM

GUA MUSANG, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) is collaborating with several solar service providers to install solar systems in remote areas that have yet to receive electricity supply.

JAKOA director-general Datuk Sapiah Mohd Nor said that last year, 1,000 solar poles were installed in Orang Asli villages.

"JAKOA will support the Orang Asli community while they wait for rural electricity assistance," she said in response to inquiries about requests from Orang Asli in Pos Gob and Kampung Kacheng, which remain without access to electricity in these remote areas.

Meanwhile, Pos Gob Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee chairman, Adi Liman, said that some residents still rely on generators  and that due to the distance to the nearest town and poor road conditions, obtaining fuel for these generators is challenging.

"Only residents in Kampung Gob and Kampung Kacheng have been able to enjoy electricity after receiving solar system assistance two years ago. However, 16 other villages are still using candles and oil lamps at night," he added.
