KANGAR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Perlis State Education Department (JPN) has organised its maiden ‘Permuafakatan Perlis’ Podcast Programme: ‘Pencegahan Jenayah Melalui Pendidikan dan Kesedaran Keselamatan’ (Crime Prevention Through Education and Safety Awareness) to raise student awareness to issues regarding safety and crime issues in society.

Perlis Education director Rose Aza Che Arifin said the programme, held in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), aims to help students understand the impact of criminal behaviour through a more approachable method, as well as educating them to be more mindful and responsible in avoiding criminal actions.

“This podcast is one of Perlis JPN’s efforts to strengthen students’ understanding of the importance of safety through a more accessible approach.

“Perlis JPN also follows the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in addressing bullying issues and uses this podcast as a platform to spread awareness about the role of School Liaison Officers (PPS),” he said.

He told reporters this after participating as a panel on the podcast programme today alongside Perlis police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim and Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation senior vice-president Datuk Seri Ayub Yaakob.

The podcast can be viewed on the Perlis Educational Technology Resource Sector YouTube platform.

Meanwhile, Muhammad said that fewer than 10 bullying cases involving school students have been recorded in Perlis this year.

He also explained that the PPS, comprising police personnel in every school, can be contacted directly by school authorities, with the police officers playing a role in providing advice and early prevention steps in addressing crime issues.

“The police have also taken additional measures by appointing PPS officers in each school to cooperate with school authorities in monitoring and relaying early information regarding cases involving students before any official reports are made,” he said.
