KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Financial holding company MNRB Holdings Berhad (MNRB) has successfully concluded its ‘Tree of Tomorrow’ nationwide tree-planting campaign, surpassing its initial goal of planting 2,500 trees by a significant margin.

The initiative, which aims to promote environmental sustainability and forest restoration, concluded with a total of 2,633 trees planted across the country.

This significant milestone was achieved in the final phase, Tree of Tomorrow 6.0, held at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, where 700 trees were planted.

“Through Tree of Tomorrow, MNRB proudly supports Malaysia’s 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign 2021-2025, a national campaign aiming at restoring forest cover and promoting biodiversity. This collaboration highlights MNRB’s commitment to fostering a greener and more sustainable future for the country.

“Under this programme, trees were planted at locations across Malaysia, including at Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve, UiTM Shah Alam, SMK Ungku Aziz and Kuala Selangor Nature Parks in Selangor as well as Sungai Merbok Forest Reserve, Kedah,” MNRB said in a statement today.

Launched in February 2024 and in conjunction with MNRB’s 50th anniversary, the Tree of Tomorrow initiative underscores the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, with a focus on supporting forest restoration and biodiversity in Malaysia.

The initiative is part of the company’s ongoing effort to raise internal awareness of sustainability, driven by its dedication to becoming a Net Zero Carbon Organisation by 2050.

Takaful Ikhlas General Berhad president and chief executive officer Datuk Rudy Rodzila Che Lamin, representing MNRB Group, in the same statement, said the completion of the initiative marks a key milestone in MNRB’s sustainability efforts, reinforcing the goal to positively impact Malaysia’s forest ecosystems.

“MNRB remains committed to raising environmental awareness and supporting Malaysia’s broader environmental goals,” he said.

Meanwhile, one of the staff volunteers, Mohamad Syaqir Aiman, said participating in the Tree of Tomorrow initiative was a meaningful experience, allowing him to give back to the community by planting trees for future generations.

“Meeting organisers from the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia deepened my understanding of the importance of planting trees and our commitment to sustain Malaysia’s forests,” he said.

Another volunteer, Muhamad Syafiq Shafie, said that this event raised awareness about sustainability and helped engage more effectively with relevant stakeholders, besides giving the workforce a clearer understanding of how and where they can contribute to sustainability efforts.

The success of the Tree of Tomorrow initiative was driven by the collective efforts of MNRB Group staff nationwide, with participation from teams from Head Office, Sungai Petani, Klang, Putrajaya and Kuantan.

MNRB also collaborated with key community stakeholders, including the College of Built Environment at UiTM Shah Alam, Kampung Tiram community, Kelab Pendidikan dan Kebajikan Puncak in Merbok, Kedah; SMK Ungku Aziz in Sabak Bernam, Selangor and the Malaysian Nature Society.
