NIBONG TEBAL, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The MyLesen B2 programme, implemented by the government, aims to produce competent motorcycle riders equipped with road safety knowledge, thereby reducing the number of motorcycle accidents.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said under this programme, youths and individuals from the B40 group have the opportunity to obtain B2 motorcycle licence for free, with the government targeting 35,000 recipients this year.

“This programme will continue next year because, although many young people today know how to ride motorcycles, they do not understand road safety law.

“We want the younger generation to become skilled motorcycle riders,” he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the MyLesen B2 Programme for 2024, here today.

Highlighting the programme’s importance, he said there were 6,024 fatal road accidents nationwide in 2023, with 4,489 involving motorcyclists.

Immediate action is needed to prevent this number from rising and to create safer roads for all road users, he added.

“Additionally, this programme is also expected to help youths and B40 individuals working in food delivery or courier services to operate with a valid licence.

“Having a licence provides better protection in terms of insurance and PERKESO coverage,” he said.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who was also present at the event, lauded the initiative for indirectly championing road safety issues.

Fadhlina, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal, said the programme involved 656 MyLesen B2 recipients in the constituency, with more than half being school students
