SABAK BERNAM, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The Jelajah Peduli Ummah mission by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) has successfully reached out to nearly 40,000 individuals across Peninsular Malaysia so far.

MAPIM chief executive officer Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said that the programme is on track to meet its target of helping 100,000 people by the time it ends next February.

“By the end of 2024, we hope to assist around 60,000 people, with the remainder of the target to be achieved by February as we’ve observed a pattern of disasters occurring in areas outside of the usual hotspots.

"So, with programmes like this, we can help raise awareness and encourage mutual assistance,” he said.

He said this after the closing ceremony of the One Leader One Village (Santuni MADANI) programme, which was part of MAPIM’s Jelajah Peduli Ummah initiative, held in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI).

Earlier, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, had said that 3,000 volunteers and 20 assets were mobilised through the Jelajah Peduli Ummah initiative to reach communities across Peninsular Malaysia, offering assistance to those affected by disasters, regardless of race or religion.

Also present at the event today were Selangor state Rural Development, Unity and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail, and Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail.

Meanwhile, Datuk Mohd Ajib said the three-day programme, which began on Friday, included activities such as a slaughtering course, rewang perdana, the distribution of school aid, donations to mosques, surau and schools, as well as various other activities following the Dakwah Bil Hal approach, in line with the MADANI Malaysia aspirations.

The programme, held in the Sungai Besar area, saw nearly 700 participants from Kampung Parit 5 and Kampung Parit 6, and surrounding communities, with the focus on fostering stronger ties between the local community and federal leadership agencies.
