Ukraine Appeals To Malaysia To Extend Humanitarian Aid

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- As Ukraine marks 1,000 days of conflict with Russia, the Ukrainian Charge d'Affaires in Malaysia, Denys Mykhailiuk, has appealed to Malaysia to extend its humanitarian assistance, particularly by providing high-quality electricity equipment, deemed vital for Ukraine’s survival and recovery.

“Malaysian-made electricity equipment is renowned for its quality and could greatly benefit Ukraine, both during and after the conflict,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the 1,000 Days of Full-Scale War Commemoration event here, on Tuesday.

The commemoration, hosted by the Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia, served as a solemn reflection on the sacrifices and enduring strength of the Ukrainian people since the war began.

Ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives of NGOs were among the 50 attendees who gathered to express solidarity with Ukraine, reflecting on the sacrifices made and the strength displayed by the nation amid the prolonged conflict.

Mykhailiuk highlighted the bravery and resilience of Ukrainians, from soldiers on the front lines to civilians and volunteers across the country, all of whom remain steadfast in their shared commitment to preserving the nation’s independence.

"This fight is for our survival, our right to self-determination, and our destiny as a nation,” he said, underscoring the unwavering spirit of his compatriots.

He also drew attention to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recently unveiled victory plan, which outlines steps to secure Ukraine’s triumph, alongside the country’s efforts to strengthen its own capacities by producing drones, radio warfare equipment, and advanced weaponry to reshape the battlefield dynamics.

Reflecting on the devastating toll of the war, Mykhailiuk said over 100,000 people have been killed or wounded, countless others remain missing, cities lie in ruins, and about 6.5 million Ukrainians are displaced abroad.

The Ukrainian envoy expressed profound gratitude for Malaysia's support at the United Nations (UN), including its vote in favour of resolutions condemning the war.

He also acknowledged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unequivocal condemnation of Russian aggression at last year’s United Nations General Assembly.

Mykhailiuk also commended Malaysian private businesses and citizens for their substantial contributions to Ukraine, which have already surpassed the scale of government aid.

With Ukraine poised to become Europe’s largest reconstruction site post-war, Mykhailiuk  said this presents significant opportunities for Malaysian businesses to engage in rebuilding efforts.
