IPOH, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Two sisters, aged 18 and 20, have emerged as the youngest graduates of Quest International University (QIU) after earning Bachelor of Medicine degrees at the university’s eighth convocation yesterday.

Tan Qi Ning and her younger sister Tan Qi Yu from Puchong, Selangor, completed six years of studies at the university, including a one-year foundation programme in Science.

Both of them, who attended a Chinese national-type school in Puchong, were homeschooled for a year and a half before enrolling at QIU in 2018 at the ages of 12 and 14, after completing the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

At the convocation ceremony, Qi Yu was also awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for her outstanding academic performance throughout her studies at the university.

When met by reporters, Qi Ning said they were both relieved and happy to have completed their medical studies, a field they had been passionate about since childhood.

“We practised self-discipline during homeschooling and throughout our university studies, and that was one of the keys to our success,” said Qi Ning.

The sisters, daughters of a lecturer and an engineer, said they would undergo a two-year housemanship at government hospitals.

Qi Yu added that she and her sister received a lot of support from lecturers and friends during their studies at the university.

“Even though we were the youngest students at QIU, we were able to interact well with our peers, despite them being older than us,” she said.

This year’s convocation saw over 600 graduates from six faculties – the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Business and Management, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Computing and Engineering, and Faculty of Integrated Life Sciences – receiving their degrees.

The degrees were presented by QIU Council Chairman and Pro-Chancellor Datuk Seri Dr Vijay Eswaran.
