KUCHING, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Sarawak will organise the Sarawak Media Games next year in conjunction with the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025 celebration at the state level, said Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS)), Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
He said it is one of the main programmes to be organised by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in 2025.
"Although Sarawak will not be hosting HAWANA next year, we will make this annual celebration an event that we share with other media members.
"Additionally, one of UKAS's major annual responsibilities next year will be organising the Sarawak Media Conference (SMEC) 2025... we will do it slightly bigger next year," he said at the UKAS Appreciation Night 2024 event here last night.
Sarawak hosted the HAWANA 2024 celebration, themed "Ethics as the Foundation of Sustainable Journalism", with various programmes held, including the HAWANA 2024 Campus Tour, the HAWANA 2024 Exhibition, and 'Juh Raon'.
Meanwhile, Abdullah said UKAS must continue to strengthen its role in providing two-way communication between the people and leaders on issues affecting the public and the latest developments in Sarawak.
"UKAS must convey the people's concerns to the leaders so that every policy and strategy planned by the state government aligns with the community's needs," he said.
