Political Awareness, Education Programmes Can Help Address Racial Issues

25/11/2024 11:12 AM

IPOH, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The government must expand political awareness and education programmes for young people to ensure they do not fall prey to narrow racial sentiments often exploited by the opposition to gain support.

Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, said this matter cannot be taken lightly, as 40 per cent of voters in the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16) will comprise young people aged between 18 and 35.

“This age group must be engaged and provided with political awareness and education so they understand the reality of diversity and the assimilation processes occurring in society,” he told Bernama after participating in the Sembang Anak MADANI podcast programme at the Perak PKR office here last night.

He also emphasised that efforts to raise political awareness and education must begin immediately, given the limited time left before GE16.

“The time for rest and leisure is long over. Now is the time to work harder, and the Malaysia MADANI concept must be highlighted, showcasing its strength rooted in diversity,” he said.

Shamsul Iskandar added that he is optimistic about the growing relationship between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Unity Government, strengthened through various joint activities and programmes.
