PUTRAJAYA, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Seven transmitter stations and 42 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) in Kelantan and Terengganu are affected by floods, according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
MCMC said in a statement today that six affected transmitter stations are located in Bachok, Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, and Tanah Merah (Kelantan) and one in Hulu Terengganu, Terengganu.
It said of the 42 NADI affected, 27 are in Kelantan and 15 in Terengganu, all of which had to be shut down due to power supply disruptions and blocked access.
"To ensure that flood victims in temporary relief centres in the two states can continue to connect via the Internet, the state MCMC has conducted coverage tests at several centres to ensure that telecommunications coverage is at a satisfactory level," read the statement.
In collaboration with telecom service providers, MCMC will also continue to keep close tabs in flood-hit states, where telecommunication infrastructure is considered critical and ensure that services will be fully operational soon.
The flood situation in Terengganu is worsening, with the number of victims recorded at 14,111 people as of 4 pm today, compared to 8,215 people this morning.
In Kelantan, victims evacuated to relief centres jumped to 42,868 people as of this afternoon compared to only 29,023 people earlier.
