GEORGE TOWN, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has fully restored water supply to 37,000 consumers in the northern beachfront area of the island, following a scheduled disruption that began last night.
PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk K.Pathmanathan said that the disruption, which started at 10 pm, was expected to last until 12 pm today, but the supply was restored earlier at 10.45 am.
He said that the Batu Ferringhi Water Treatment Plant (WTP) was temporarily shut down last night to facilitate the replacement of a faulty 900mm valve in the plant as well as high-voltage electrical servicing/preventive maintenance work.
“All overnight works on-site have been successfully completed, as planned and ahead of schedule. The Batu Ferringhi WTP has been fully recommissioned.
“It may produce a maximum of 120 million litres per day (MLD) of treated water for supply in seven key areas, namely Bagan Jermal, Batu Ferringhi, Mount Erskine, Tanjung Bungah, Tanjung Pinang, Tanjong Tokong and Teluk Bahang,” he said in a statement today.
Pathmanathan said the work at the Batu Ferringhi WTP would help ensure a continuous and reliable water supply to Penang Island’s popular beachfront areas for years to come.
Consumers still experiencing water supply issues in these areas are advised to contact PBAPP’s 24-hour call centre at 04-255 8255.
