PATTANI (Thailand), Dec 2 (Bernama) -- A total of 300 flood victims, including 100 students and residents of Kampung Tebing, have been relocated to the three-storey Sasana Suksa School after their area was hit by floods.

The floodwaters, which began to rise to a level of one metre on November 27, submerged the residential areas of the village, forcing residents to seek shelter at the school.

Abdul Kari Hama, Assistant Headmaster of Sasana Suksa School, said the floodwaters started to overflow into the village and school due to heavy rainfall over several days.

“Sasana Suksa School is a private Islamic school with 1,600 students. Due to this flood disaster, the school had to postpone its thanksgiving event to mark the school's 100th anniversary.

“This is the second time this event has been postponed, after the same incident occurred last year,” he said.

On Sunday, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported that the ongoing floods have claimed 12 lives, affected 78 districts, 508 sub-districts, 3,387 villages, and 617,386 households in the seven southern provinces – Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
