GEORGE TOWN, Dec 4 (Bernama) – Penang Second Bridge, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge will be temporarily closed from 11 pm, Dec 14 to 10 am, Dec 15 to accommodate the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2024.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee Chairman Wong Hon Wai said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the smooth running of the marathon.
“Penang First Bridge will remain open at all times. The public is advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any inconvenience,” he said in a statement today.
Wong also expressed excitement about the launch of the Run Rev Carnival, a brand-new concept and rebranding of an iconic event aimed at elevating PBIM to the next level, which seeks to promote fitness, sports tourism, and the vibrant spirit of the marathon in Penang.
The Run Rev Carnival will be held on Saturday, Dec 14 from 6 pm to 1 am at Vervea Highstreet, Aspen Vision City.
“This event will bring together not just marathon participants but also fitness enthusiasts, health advocates, and entertainment lovers. We want everyone to experience the excitement ahead of the marathon on Dec 15,” he added.
Wong pointed out that more than 22,000 runners from 64 countries will participate in this year’s PBIM, which features three categories namely the full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km) and 10 km run.
