KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Takaful Ikhlas General Bhd (Takaful Ikhlas) today launched the Takaful4All (T4A) Disaster Relief Team as an initiative to assist communities affected by disasters, especially floods.
Takaful Ikhlas president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Rudy Rodzila Che Lamin said the team's establishment was aimed at providing immediate assistance and educating the people to be better prepared to face future disasters.
"This team is a strategic initiative in addressing the challenges of the rainy season and other disasters. It involves volunteers from takaful companies, who will receive intensive training from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) to improve the efficiency of relief operations," he said at the launch.
He was speaking at the T4A Sustainability Day 2024 programme organised by the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA). MTA CEO Mohd Radzuan Mohamed and JBPM deputy director Yusri Basri were also present.
Rudy Rodzila said the team will begin operations in the federal capital , with plans to train 50 to 100 members in basic disaster response skills under the guidance of professionals.
“The training will cover CPR, rescue techniques, and emergency logistics management. Additionally, the team will assist with post-disaster clean-up efforts at mosques, schools, and public spaces affected by floods.
“They will also help repair damaged infrastructure, depending on the needs and available resources,” he added.
Regarding T4A Sustainability Day 2024, Mohd Radzuan said 15 leading takaful companies, such as Takaful Ikhlas, Sun Life Malaysia and Zurich Takaful, participated in showcasing their sustainability efforts.
"More than 500 participants attended, comprising representatives from the takaful industry and the public interested in participating in this sustainability effort.
“Activities included a five-kilometre Green Hero Run, a zero-waste lifestyle workshop, and training on rescue techniques and emergency responses to disasters such as floods, which were well received,” he said.
He expressed hope that the programme would become an annual event, fostering greater environmental awareness and resource conservation among takaful industry players.
