MELAKA, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- Theatre performances remain an ideal platform for showcasing the literary masterpieces of Malay civilisation and national history, which are being actively studied and rectified by local historians, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said such performances not only present the historical truths of a nation but also elevate the significance of high-value historical literature while serving as a medium for young people to appreciate classical works that are part of the country’s rich heritage.

“For instance, the masterpiece Sulalat’us Salatin (also known as the Malay Annals), believed to be the oldest classical Malay literature with historical elements in the Malay world, narrates the origins of the Malacca Sultanate, its golden age and eventual downfall.

“By staging works like this evening’s musical performance, the younger generation can gain insight into corrected historical realities based on research and findings from diverse perspectives,” he told reporters last night.

He was met after attending the theatre performance Purbawara Muzikal Manifestasi Karya Agung Sulalat’us Salatin: Keagungan Kemaharajaan Maritim at Panggung Sari, Melaka JKKKN Complex here.

The three-day musical theatre, which began on Friday, evolves around the maritime empire of the Straits of Malacca, beginning with the reign of Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain and culminating in the fall of the Malacca Sultanate.

The two-hour production, directed by Siti Rohaya Attan with a script written by Siti Jasmina Ibrahim, Siti Rohaya and Ezee Klasik, stars Norish Karman, Adam Lee, Rosli Rahman Adam, Zehra Haris and Putri Nur Zahirah.
