SINGAPORE

1. SINGPOST FIRES 3 SENIOR EXECUTIVES INCLUDING GROUP CEO, CFO OVER HANDLING OF WHISTLE-BLOWING REPORT -- THE STRAITS TIMES

Singapore Post has terminated the employment of three of its senior management staff after it concluded investigations over a whistle-blower’s report that it received earlier in 2024.

Singapore Post has fired three of its senior executives after a probe into a whistleblower’s report found "grossly negligent" behaviour in their handling of internal investigations.

 

LAOS

1. LAO BREWERY TO DISTRIBUTE PEPSICO SNACKS -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Lao Brewery Co. Ltd is teaming up with global brand PepsiCo Snacks to distribute its popular products in Laos starting next month. The company will leverage its market leadership in Laos to distribute snacks such as Lay’s, Tawan, Sunbites, Doritos, and Cheetos.

 

2. KOREAN SUPPORT FOR UPGRADING OF BRIDGES, ROADS -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The Korea International Cooperation Agency provided a RM56 million (US$13 million) grant to upgrade six bridges and roads in Laos. Next year, Laos and South Korea will mark the 30th anniversary of their re-establishment of diplomatic relations.

 

MYANMAR

1. YEZIN UNIVERSITY MARKS CENTENARY WITH CELEBRATIONS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Yezin University of Agriculture in Nay Pyi Taw celebrated its 100th anniversary on Sunday. The objective of the pioneering university is to equip agricultural producers with knowledge in food production technologies, protect the environment and ensure sustainable farm practices. 

 

2. HIGHEST VERTICAL BRIDGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

When completed, the Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge will become the highest vertical clearance bridge in the country. The modern bridge will be equipped with a maintenance facility, a toll plaza for revenue collection, and a weight bridge to monitor heavy vehicles.

 

VIETNAM

1. BILLION-DOLLAR DEFENCE DEALS SECURED AT HANOI EXPO -- VIETNAM NEWS

Sixteen defence industry contracts worth RM1.3 billion (US$286 million) were signed between Vietnam manufacturers and foreign companies mainly from Belgium, India, France and the United States. The deals were inked at  Vietnam International Defence Expo 2024 in Hanoi held from 19-22 December.

 

2. LOCAL PRODUCTS EXPO PROMOTES VILLAGE SKILLS --  VIETNAM NEWS 

The ongoing “Made in Vietnam 2024 Goods Week” expo in Hanoi has attracted nearly 170 booths with over 100 exhibitors from 30 localities across the country. Featuring “One Commune, One Product” campaign, the expo is promoting traditional products from villages.

Indonesian police on Sunday detained a Ukrainian citizen following his arrest in Thailand for allegedly operating an illegal drug laboratory in Bali.

Phu Kradueng National Park in Loei province reported hoarfrost on Sunday morning, the first such phenomenon in the park this winter.
