Embedding Savings Culture Among Students At PTPTN’s Small Entrepreneurs Carnival

30/12/2024 10:41 PM

PUCHONG, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- For the first time, 100 students from 20 schools in the states of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya participated in the PTPTN’s (National Higher Education Fund Corporation) MADANI Generation of Small Entrepreneurs Carnival at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Puchong Utama 3, here today.

PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim said the one-day carnival, organised jointly with the SK Puchong Utama 3 PTA (Parent-Teacher Association), was a strategic initiative to develop entrepreneurial potential and inculcate the habit of savings among the younger generation.

“The PTPTN MADANI Generation Small Entrepreneurs Carnival is PTPTN’s commitment in responding to the government’s call based on the concept of MADANI Malaysia which emphasises sustainability, well-being, creativity, respect, confidence and kindness.

“In line with the objectives of the establishment of the Education Savings Club, this carnival was to promote SSPN Savings (National Education Savings Scheme) as a platform for savings through entrepreneurial activities,” she said at the closing ceremony of the carnival.

She said the carnival was attended by students and teachers who registered with the PTPTN Education Savings Club and those involved in opening various sales stalls throughout the carnival.

“Apart from the sales stalls, many other activities were also held such as colouring competition, puzzle compiling competition and karaoke competition while PTPTN also opened a promotional SSPN Savings counter which offered attractive souvenirs for opening new accounts or adding deposits,” she said.

Norliza said PTPTN would also channel a corporate social responsibility (CSR) donation of RM153,300 through the ‘Tabung Impian Kasih Simpan SSPN’ programme, specifically to members of the Education Savings Club nationwide.

She said a SSPN Prime Savings Account with RM100 (contributed) will be opened for 1,533 students who are still active as members of the Education Savings Club in 2024.

In the meantime, she hoped that all schools in the country would seize the opportunity to register with the Education Savings Club and enjoy the advantages provided.

“Through ‘Sahabat PTPTN’, they will enjoy the Education Savings Club Incentive of RM1,000 on a one-off basis, an info corner sponsorship of RM250 and the opportunity to participate in the School and National Savings Competitions organised by PTPTN,” she said.

Norliza said PTPTN, as an agency under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), would stay committed to raising public awareness about saving through the SSPN Savings to reduce students’ dependence on loans.

“PTPTN is confident that this effort will be supported by all parties to realise PTPTN’s vision as the leading national higher education fund,” she said.

Also present were deputy secretary-general of MOE Planning and Development Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim, PTPTN chief executive Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid, director of the MOE’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training Division Ts. Zulkernai Fauzi and deputy director of the MOE Sports, Curriculum and Arts Division Ahmad Haridan Mohammed.
