KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Armed with a mix of young and experienced players, the Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) is seeking to secure all three titles up for grabs in this season's Malaysian Hockey League (MHL).
Head coach Mohd Harfizi Baharom said the team's goal is to make up for last season's disappointment when THT finished runners-up in the Charity Shield, TNB Cup and league.
He was confident that the Turtles could achieve their target this year, aided by two experienced imports from South Korea and South Africa.
"This year, we will strive to bring back all three trophies to Terengganu after missing out last year. We were disappointed as we were on track for a treble but missed several golden opportunities.
"Insyallah, in 2025, the players are ready to rise from disappointment and reclaim the treble we won in 2023," he said at the 2025 THT player introduction, jersey launch, and sponsorship ceremony for the MHL 2025.
THT will feature 39 players this season, including two imports and seven new faces, as they prepare for the MHL, which kicks off on Jan 4.
The two key imports are Samkelo Mvimbi, who plays forward, and Lee Nam Yong, a versatile player capable of playing in all positions.
Meanwhile, THT captain Mohd Fitri Saari said this year's competition is expected to be more intense, with the participation of the debutant Australian team, Territory Stingers, and local outfit Matador Hockey Club.
However, he said the challenge would not dampen THT players' spirit, as they are mentally and physically prepared.
"Matador Hockey Club may be a strong new contender as they feature seven import players from Pakistan.
"The Australian team also have their own strengths. However, that is no excuse for us to falter, and we will strive to perform our best this season," he said.
The seven other teams competing in the 2025 edition are Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Maybank, Nurinsafi Sporting, UiTM HA-KPT, Armed Forces HT, TNB Thunderbolt and Liaoning Hockey Team (China).
Six venues will host 78 matches: the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, KPM Hockey Stadium, Tun Razak Hockey Stadium, Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium in Kuala Terengganu, Bertam Hockey Stadium in Penang, and Seremban Hockey Stadium in Negeri Sembilan.
