SPM Candidates At SMUA Al-Falah Remain Undaunted Despite Floodwaters

PASIR MAS, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- There were no flagging spirits as 48 candidates stayed on course to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination at Sekolah Menengah Ugama Arab (SMUA) Al-Falah here, despite their school still being surrounded by floodwaters.

For them, the SPM written test, which began today, was conducted as usual, and the flooding did not affect their composure while answering the questions

A candidate, Nurul Asma Muhd Razali, 17, said the wet surroundings did not affect her emotions because the area is prone to flooding every year.

“We are used to the flooding here, so it's not a big problem as we are mentally and physically prepared.

“Moreover, taking the exam at our own school feels more comfortable compared to going to another school,” she told Bernama when met at the school.

She said the clear sky in recent days has lifted the spirits of her schoolmates, as the water level at the school is slowly but surely receding.

However, according to Nurul Asma, the youngest of 11 siblings, she and the other candidates had to sit for the SPM listening (audio) test at a different school due to the metre-high flood at SMUA Al-Falah.

Another candidate, Khairul Anuar Hamad, said the prospect of flooding did not distract him from focusing on his national secondary school public exam today.

For him, what is uppermost is that he has done his best possible preparation to face the SPM.

“The flood water at school is receding and there is also a make-shift bridge provided by the teachers to reach the examination hall,” he said.

In Kelantan, SMUA Al-Falah is one of two examination centres still affected by floods, apart from SMUA Diniah which accommodates 16 students.
