Drainage, Irrigation Plan Strengthens Flood Mitigation Measures In Kelantan

02/01/2025 08:13 PM

KOTA BHARU, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan government will intensify efforts to enhance disaster management efficiency through a drainage and irrigation plan across all flood-affected areas, said Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

He said these efforts will be carried out through the construction of concrete drains and more modern, environmentally friendly drainage systems.

“The Environmentally Friendly Drainage Master Plan (PISMA) in major towns aims to minimise the risk of flash floods through more efficient and resilient drainage systems,” he said here today.

The media reported that the recent floods in Kelantan caused over RM300 million in damages, affecting infrastructure such as buildings, roads, and the agricultural sector.

In a related development, Mohd Nassuruddin also announced that the state government had amended the State of Kelantan Water Resources Enactment to emphasise the preservation of water catchment areas and rivers to maintain ecological balance.
