PUTRAJAYA, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is committed to optimising its governance practices this year, focusing on equipping its officers with the latest technology including artificial intelligence (AI).

Its director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said MMEA fully supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s emphasis on good governance in public service to enhance efficiency and professionalism, thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

In a statement today, he affirmed APMM’s determination to make 2025 a benchmark year for excellence in both management and enforcement.

"APMM will adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward any officer or member compromising national security due to negligence, lack of integrity, or personal gain.

"This is a serious matter that must be dealt with properly by all department heads to ensure that public services are held in high esteem by Malaysians,” he said.

Mohd Rosli emphasised that strengthening governance has been a core focus in driving the MMEA towards becoming a respected law enforcement agency.

To enhance service efficiency, he said the MMEA has outlined specific training programmes in cutting-edge technologies, including AI, to equip officers and personnel with advanced knowledge and skills.

By leveraging AI technology in surveillance, data analysis, and risk management, he said, MMEA is confident of increasing operational effectiveness and addressing increasingly complex maritime security challenges.

"This aligns with the Prime Minister's vision of empowering civil servants, particularly the younger generation, to compete with the expertise of consultants and foreign entities," he added.

He said MMEA will ensure that the country continues to excel under the MADANI government by by enhancing and reinforcing governance across all fields and operations within the agency.
