Penang FC Failed To Secure Three Crucial Points Due To Player Errors - Coach

13/01/2025 11:27 AM

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 13 (Bernama) — Penang FC head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail attributed his team's failure to secure three crucial points in last night’s Super League match to mistakes made by the players themselves.

The match aganist Perak FC ended in a 3-3 draw.

Wan Rohaimi explained that he had emphasised from the start the importance of maintaining pressure on the opposition, especially when leading by two goals, but the players failed to execute this plan.

“When we conceded the penalty, I could see the players losing focus, and shortly after, we conceded another goal. Coming back from that to score again was nearly impossible, but the fighting spirit was there as they gave everything to achieve a positive result.

“They need to be smarter because football is not just about physical strength but also about using a clear mind to solve problems on the pitch,” he said at the post-match press conference at Stadium Bandaraya here last night.

The 48-year-old coach was visibly disappointed with the outcome, adding that conceding two goals in 10 minutes, especially when leading, was unacceptable.

While acknowledging some positive aspects of the match, Wan Rohaimi stressed that reducing errors is crucial if the team hopes to win, particularly in the highly competitive Super League.

Meanwhile, Perak FC head coach Yusri Che Lah expressed satisfaction with the draw, even though his team managed to secure only one point.

“Given the squad’s limitations, I’m pleased with the result. Clayton (Da Silveira Da Silva) played despite being injured, Luciano (Guaycochea) was only 85 per cent fit, and three or four key players were absent.

“Our substitutes included under-20 players, so we lacked options for rotation, but that’s not an excuse,” Yusri said.

He highlighted that tactical adjustments after falling behind proved effective, enabling his team to mount a comeback and hold the Panthers to a draw.

In last night’s match, Penang FC failed to capitalise on their home advantage, settling for the  3-3 draw. The result leaves them in 11th place on the league table with 15 points, while Perak FC sit in 8th with 19 points.

Penang FC will next face Selangor FC in the Challenge Cup semi-final on Jan 19 and meet them again for their 18th Super League match on Jan 25 at Stadium Bandaraya.
