MCPF To Intensify Cybercrime Awareness Campaigns In Perak

19/01/2025 05:28 PM

TAIPING, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) revealed that Kuala Kangsar district recorded the highest number of cybercrime cases in the state, prompting more effective programmes to tackle the issue.

Its Perak chairman Datuk Zainal Azman Abu Seman said comprehensive steps are being taken to raise public awareness about the dangers of crimes, especially cybercrimes, adding that regular programmes are being implemented to ensure that information reaches all communities, including in rural areas.

"We have received reports from district chairpersons in Perak from 2023 to 2024, highlighting the need for a more thorough and practical approach to addressing cybercrime-related issues.

"For example, according to the presentation from yesterday, it was reported that the highest number of cybercrime cases occurred in Kuala Kangsar, which we did not expect. Therefore, we will prioritise this area for action this year," he said in a press conference following the closing ceremony of the Perak MCPF retreat for Larut Matang and Selama here today, which was officiated by Perak contingent police headquarters Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief Zaharudin Rasip.

He said that several federal agencies, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), have shown interest in collaborating with MCPF to improve crime prevention efforts.

Zainal added that Perak MCPF is also actively organising activities, seminars, and crime prevention programmes targeting teenagers and school students, which require special attention.

"MCPF can assist by offering educational programmes to the youth, helping them avoid social issues and enhancing their awareness levels.

"We will strengthen the periodic programmes conducted in communities because we recognise that the nature of crime is evolving from traditional methods to more complex, technology-based approaches. Therefore, MCPF members need to adapt their strategies to make awareness efforts more effective," he added.
