KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has described top national men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani’s India Open victory as a proud achievement for the country.
While congratulating the pair, Ahmad Zahid said their success proved that the national shuttlers possessed an extraordinary amount of resilience and fighting spirit.
“Maintain this momentum to achieve more success on the international stage this year. Well done, boys. Keep it up!” he posted on X (formerly Twitter) today.
In the men’s doubles final in New Delhi today, Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin produced a smashing performance to sink South Korean pair Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae 21-15, 13-21, 21-16.
With the win, Sze Fei-Izzuddin pocketed US$70,300 (about RM316,631) while the South Koreans took home US$33,250 (RM149,836).
Malaysia last won the India Open men's doubles title through Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari in the 2010 edition.
