KOTA BHARU, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Nearly 1,300 people from five parliamentary constituencies in Kelantan received assistance through the One-Off Aid Programme of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister’s political secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin said the five constituencies are Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Rantau Panjang, Kota Bharu and Tumpat.
He said that for the second phase of the programme, the aid will be expanded to nine other constituencies and it is expected to be implemented this year.
"The Prime Minister (Anwar Ibrahim) has expressed his commitment to draw closer to the people of Kelantan through his representatives. He (Anwar) is unable to meet everyone directly but has asked us to represent him in meeting them,” he told reporters during the aid presentation ceremony at Dewan Kelab Suara Muda here today.
Azman said the aid recipients, who each received RM200, were selected by local community leaders and comprised the disabled, low-income earners and asnaf group.
Earlier, 226 people from the Kota Bharu constituency received the financial aid.
Meanwhile, 37-year-old recipient Farhana Alias of Kampung Pauh Sembilan here expressed her appreciation to Anwar for the aid.
"This aid greatly eases my family's burden, especially as I earn a modest income as a salesperson. My husband, Mohd Adnan Mohd Sadi, 40, works in the village and we have three children,” she said.
