KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) aims to assist 200 families of hardcore poor, poor and asnaf in Selangor and the Klang Valley, through this year’s Sinar Kasih Ramadan (SKR) programme, to help them cover the costs of breaking the fast and sahur (pre-dawn meal).
YBK, in a statement, said that selected recipients will receive cash assistance of up to RM600 and food donations from strategic partners, which will be distributed a week before the Ramadan month which will be observed by Muslims in March.
“The main objective of the SKR programme is to ease the burden of selected underprivileged families throughout Ramadan, particularly in meeting expenses for breaking the fast and sahur,” the statement read.
Since its inception in 2008, the programme has benefited 3,809 families. Recipients are selected based on several criteria, including the Poverty Line Income (PGK) and their socio-economic conditions, according to YBK.
The foundation added that information on eligible families is gathered from various sources, including schools, community leaders, and YBK volunteers.
“YBK also encourages contributions from individuals, organisations, and corporate bodies to sponsor these families. Donations can be made to MBSB Bank Berhad (Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan) via account number 1005054000003480,” it said.
