The university’s Engineering programme is placed second in Malaysia, rising to the 176-200 band, a significant jump from its previous in 201-250 band, while its Computer Science programme is now the top three in the country, jumping two bands to 201-250 band from the 301-400 band and its Physical Sciences programme is ranked first in Malaysia, advancing to the 201-250 band from the 251-300 band.

“These rankings, which assess 1,488 institutions across 11 broad subject areas using rigorous performance indicators recalibrated for specific disciplines, highlight UTP's impressive progress,” UTP said in a statement today.

UTP’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib expressed immense pride over UTP's remarkable performance in the rankings, which he said reflected the dedication and hard work of the university's faculty, students and staff.

"UTP remains committed to producing highly skilled graduates and driving impactful innovation that meets industry needs, while addressing global and societal challenges through sustainability-driven solutions.

“One of our key initiatives is the introduction of the Bachelor of Integrated Engineering degree with Honours, the first of its kind in Malaysia, designed to produce resilient engineers capable of solving complex industrial and societal issues,” Mohamed Ibrahim said.

He also reiterated UTP’s commitment to supporting PETRONAS in achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions (NZCE) by 2050.

"We deeply appreciate the contributions of all stakeholders in this journey and will strive to further elevate our academic and research excellence on the global stage,” he added.

UTP's strong performance extended beyond the subject rankings, with the university, for the first time, breaking into the top 250 in THE World University Rankings 2025.

This makes UTP Malaysia’s highest-ranked institution, moving into the 201-250 band from last year’s 301-350.
