KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysian League heavyweights Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have confirmed the signing of three former Spanish La Liga players to strengthen their squad in pursuit of their Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) dream.
The trio are former Valencia striker Jonathan Viera, former Sevilla and Swansea City midfielder Roque Mesa, and former Villarreal defender Alvaro Gonzalez, who previously played alongside Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi club Al-Nassr.
JDT announced the signings in phases via their official Facebook page, Johor Southern Tigers.
The Southern Tigers are set to face Australian side Central Coast Mariners on Tuesday (Feb 11) in New South Wales before concluding their East region league stage campaign against South Korea’s FC Pohang Steelers on Feb 18 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor.
JDT currently hold a strong position to advance to the knockout stage, sitting in sixth place on goal difference despite sharing eight points with China’s Shanghai Port and Thailand’s Buriram United after six matches.
Only the top eight teams from the 12-team league stage will advance to the Round of 16.
