IPOH, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) has announced that its Disciplinary Committee will decide on the next steps regarding a khatib (person who delivers the sermon) who allegedly read a Friday sermon text from the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP) on Jan 31.
JAIPk deputy director Zakaria Abd. Razak said an investigation was carried out by the Parit Buntar Islamic Religious Administration Office. The findings from the investigation have since been submitted to its Management Division.
"The Disciplinary Committee will review the situation and determine appropriate action, in line with the Perak State Mosque Officers Regulations 2018,” Zakaria said in a statement today.
He emphasised that mosque officials must respect the authority of JAIPk, which is responsible for overseeing the content of Friday sermons.
“Mosque officials must carry out their responsibilities diligently and follow established guidelines,” he said, adding that mosque officials in the state must strictly adhere to the regulations to avoid any potential issues.
Earlier, the police handed over the investigation into the incident to JAIPk for further action, after the khatib failed to deliver the sermon prepared by the state religious authorities.
Acting Perak police chief DCP Zulkafli Sariaat confirmed that police had recorded statements from two individuals who filed reports about the incident.
