SEREMBAN, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- Maxis Berhad continues to spread Chinese New Year cheer by donating money packets and essentials to 100 senior citizens in Temiang here.
Its Chief People and Transformation Officer, Patrick Er, said the contributions reflect its continuous commitment to easing people's burden, especially the elderly during festive seasons.
"We are truly honoured to share happiness with the residents. This will strengthen the bond between company employees and the public. We help not only urban communities but also those in rural areas.
"Our theme for this celebration, 'With every little moment shared, togetherness grows' also seeks to encourage the public to connect with their loved ones. Sharing every moment, no matter how small brings us closer together," he said after handing over the contributions here recently.
Temiang state assemblyman Ng Chin Tsai and more than 30 Maxis employees were also present.
Er said that as a telecommunications company, Maxis intended to connect all communities so that they can experience the joy of festive seasons, further strengthening friendships, adding that they are planning to host similar events annually.
"…not only in conjunction with the Chinese New Year but also during all other celebrations in the country. We want to share the joy," he said.
Besides helping those in need, he said Maxis also focuses on education to support people's digital needs including through the Maxis eKelas programme for students in rural areas to improve their academic performance, adding that the company's eKelas Usahawan initiative helps to equip micro and small entrepreneurs with digital marketing skills and expand their businesses.
Meanwhile, Ng expressed appreciation to Maxis for the donation and called on more parties, including corporate bodies, to carry out such programmes.
Liw Saw Yin, 77, said she was happy with the contribution, adding that this initiative shows the company's concern for the elderly.
"I am very happy; it shows that Maxis values elderly people who are less fortunate. This is the first time I have received a donation like this," she added.
