KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- Two former prime ministers have proposed a special motion in the Dewan Rakyat to address the Palestinian crisis following US President Donald Trump’s unexpected announcement to relocate Palestinians and take control of the Gaza Strip.
Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera), when debating the motion of thanks on the royal address, said the world should reject the proposal, calling it inhumane and unacceptable.
“The Palestinian issue transcends religion - it is a humanitarian crisis. The Islamic world and global community must unite. Malaysia should urge the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency meeting, even if some Islamic nations have diplomatic ties with Israel.
“The United Nations (UN) must act, as this proposal not only provokes global outrage but also threatens international stability,” he said.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (PN-Pagoh) condemned the move as ethnic cleansing, violating international law and human rights.
As ASEAN Chair and a founding OIC member, Muhyiddin urged Malaysia to propose a UN resolution to deploy peacekeepers and protect Palestinian rights.
"I fully support tabling this motion for debate by all Honourable Members," he said.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) praised the government’s commitment to Gaza reconstruction, highlighting Malaysia’s strong humanitarian stance.
Aminuddin, also the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, announced the launch of a Gaza Development Fund, mobilised across the state to encourage public contributions.
The Dewan Rakyat sitting resumes on Monday.
