KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) — Former national rugby sevens (7s) head coach, Mohd Saizul Hafifi Md Noor, has been appointed as the new head coach of the national 15-a-side (15s) Bunga Raya squad, according to Malaysia Rugby, Amir Amri Mohamad.
Amir said that Mohd Saizul will lead the national squad for a one-year term, replacing the previous coach, Mohd Farid Syazwan Abu Bakar.
“Mohd Saizul’s first task will be to form the national Bunga Raya team, who are set to compete in the 2025 Asia Rugby Emirates Championship playoff in April.
“However, we need to wait for the World Rugby meeting on February 18 to determine whether Sri Lanka will face Malaysia, which will confirm the country’s participation in the championship,” he told reporters after the Malaysia Rugby meeting at the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM) headquarters today..
Meanwhile, Amir added that the association has decided to retain both head coaches for the men’s and women’s 7s teams, currently led by Nik Safuan Ismade Nik Man and Mohammad Faiz Samsukhidir, respectively.
Both coaches will be tasked with leading their teams in the quest for medals at the SEA Games in Thailand this December.
