KALABAKAN, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government is striving to ensure residents in the Merotai state constituency are not left behind from enjoying development, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said a new Merotai township will be opened at Kijang Point, following the completion of 100 double-storey houses and 16 shop lots.

He said a RM2 million hall would also be built in Merotai, while the installation of solar streetlights along Jambatan Putih to Sungai Udin, Merotai, with an allocation of RM1.9 million, would be carried out this year.

"In addition, we also approved the land applications for Tanah Perkampung Iban in Merotai Besar and Kampung Melati Burut to be gazetted as village reserves,” he said in a statement after attending the Anak Merotai Chinese New Year celebration organised by Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) here today.

Also present was PHRS president Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah.

According to Hajiji, development efforts in every state constituency proceeded more smoothly in areas represented by elected representatives from the Sabah government-led party today.

"Believe me, in the coming state election, the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will form the government again, so I don't want Merotai to be left behind this time. Merotai must be represented by a government-elected representative. We must win here, (and) develop Merotai. We are not making empty promises, we have a clear direction,” he said.

Hajiji, also the GRS chairman, said the state government under the leadership of GRS and Pakatan Harapan (PH), has a clear direction and a major agenda for developing Sabah, including Tawau and Kalabakan, with a lot achieved over the past four years of governing the state.

He said GRS aims to win all the state assembly seats in the Tawau and Kalabakan parliamentary constituencies in the coming 17th Sabah State Election.
