MOSTI CONSIDERS EXTENDING DURATION OF ATOMIC ENERGY LICENCE

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) is considering amending the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 (Act 304) to extend the licensing period for eligible applicants.

Minister Chang Lih Kang explained that the industry views the current three-year term as too short, creating challenges for investors.

"Under Act 304, MOSTI can only issue licenses for a three-year term. Feedback from the industry indicates that this period is too brief and may discourage investment in the sector," he said.

“Yes, we are currently considering extending the term,” he said in response to a supplementary question from Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN-Jerantut) regarding the government's plans to extend the licence period to attract investors, during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

MOE PREPARES STUDENTS TO FACE IR4.0 AND AI IN 2027 CURRICULUM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Education (MOE) is intensifying efforts to prepare students for the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) and artificial intelligence (AI) by incorporating digital education and new technologies into the 2027 School Curriculum (KP2027).

Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said MOE is currently developing KP2027, which will introduce seven essential competencies across all subjects, one of which is digital literacy.

“Additionally, specific digital skills will be integrated into the Integrated Learning subjects starting at Level I and Level II, and later in Technology and Digital subjects at Level III in primary schools,” he said.

“Digital technology content will continue in lower secondary levels to provide students with opportunities to apply digital competencies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects at upper secondary levels,” he added.

He was responding to a question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) regarding the specific changes being made to the national curriculum to ensure students are prepared for the challenges of IR4.0 and AI technologies.
