KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- FM Global Logistics Holdings Bhd via its wholly-owned unit FM Global Logistics Sdn Bhd has partnered with three companies, Scania Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Solarvest Energy Sdn Bhd, and JAC Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd, to deepen its commitment to the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) agenda.

In a statement today, FM Global said that as part of the collaboration, the group has purchased 20 Scania Super trucks equipped with fuel-efficient Euro 5 engines from Scania Malaysia for an estimated RM11 million.

“FM Global is also commissioning Solarvest for the installation of solar systems at its warehouses at a cost of approximately RM1.5 million and acquiring two JAC i75 electric trucks from JAC Motors for RM557,000,” it said.

Speaking at the partnership event today, FM Global managing director Chew Chong Keat said the partnerships have certainly elevated its path towards meeting its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets.

“These investments in green technology will assist the group, particularly in compliance with regulatory standards in the coming years.

“By acquiring Scania Super trucks, we will be able to save up to eight per cent of fuel per vehicle and reduce GHG emissions from the group’s operations by as much as 719 metric tonnes (MT) annually,” he said.

Chew also noted that the acquisition of JAC Motors’ electric trucks marks the start of the company’s transition from fossil-fuel combustion engines to zero-emission vehicles, which is expected to reduce approximately six MT of GHG emissions annually.

He said the company has also stepped up its plan to deepen its ESG commitment by awarding an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contract for a rooftop solar system at FM Global’s two new warehouses in Port Klang, Selangor, which could potentially reduce 806 MT of GHG per year.

“In the long term, we are also targeting a 45 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and Malaysia’s Nationally Determined Contributions Action Plan.

“In our case, we have a few more years to achieve this goal, so we are focusing on it right now,” he added.
