One Killed, 5 Injured In Shooting At Pennsylvania Hospital - Reports

MOSCOW, Feb 23 (Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- One person was killed, and five people were injured after a shooting occurred at a hospital in the US state of Pennsylvania. The attacker was eliminated, according to Sputnik/RIA Novosti, citing  ABC News report.

According to the broadcaster, the tragedy occurred on Saturday. The shooter, Diogenes Ortiz, who had plastic zip ties and a gun, entered the intensive care unit of the UPMC Memorial Hospital and took several employees hostage.

The perpetrator shot a doctor, a nurse and a caretaker, who are now in stable condition. He also shot three police officers, one of whom died, the channel reported.

Police officers who arrived at the scene tried to negotiate with Ortiz, but he came out of the hospital's intensive care unit, holding one of the medical workers hostage. Officers opened fire, killing him.

ABC emphasises that authorities are investigating the incident. The motive for the crime is still unknown.
