KUCHING, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) in land management is a strategic move to ensure Sarawak’s services remain relevant in the digital era, says Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Awang Tengah, who is also Sarawak Natural Resources and Urban Development Minister II, said AI technology could monitor boundary changes, analyse geospatial data more accurately, and manage land resources sustainably.
“This is crucial in addressing challenges such as rapid development growth. AI technology enables us to gain a more comprehensive and precise overview of land use, thus supporting sustainable development policies,” he said in his speech at the Sarawak Land and Survey Department’s dinner event here tonight.
He also emphasised that digital transformation through AI required strong synergy and comprehensive collaboration from all stakeholders.
“Continuous education and training are key to ensuring that officers and staff at all levels can effectively adapt to new technologies.
“Regular engagement with the public must also be carried out to ensure they understand the procedures for dealing with this department,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Land and Survey Department director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood said that as of the end of last year, a total of 1,187,427 hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land across Sarawak had been surveyed under the New Initiative NCR Measurement Programme.
Of this total, 925,934 hectares had been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserves (Agriculture) under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.
“The effort to enhance individual lot measurement under this programme continues to be strengthened by improving the technology and measurement methods used,” he said.
He added that as of the end of last year, 115,407 hectares had been surveyed as individual lots, involving a total of 97,018 lots.
