LIS To Host National Challenge-Based Learning Event In 2026

LABUAN, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Labuan International School (LIS) will expand its Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) programme by organising a large-scale event in 2026, inviting students from schools across the country to participate.

LIS principal Fadlin Aimuni said the initiative, introduced in 2016, has transformed the way students think, learn, and solve problems by emphasising innovation and real-world applications.

“The programme has not only enhanced students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also nurtured future leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and innovation.

"Our students have consistently excelled, winning 69 medals in national and international competitions in 2024 alone.

"Through this expansion, we aim to provide more students with the opportunity to engage in innovative learning and develop solutions to real-world challenges," she told Bernama after the 9th Series of Challenger-Based Learning prize presentation ceremony at the LIS Auditorium here today.

Fadlin said the programme has made a significant impact, with 289 students across 10 primary and 16 secondary groups developing projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) this year.

Primary pupils present their ideas through exhibitions, while secondary students showcase their solutions via iMovie presentations shared on social media.

"LIS students have gained national and international recognition, including a nomination to represent Malaysia in Girl Code 2025 after winning the Potential Award and 1st Runner-Up at the National Innovation Competition in Sarawak.

"They also clinched 1st Prize in the e-Inovasi Competition at the International Learning Resource Festival (ILRF 2024)," she said.

Fadlin added that the programme goes beyond academic achievements by fostering 21st-century skills such as creativity, communication, teamwork, and resilience.

"CBL encourages students to think critically, challenge norms, and present ideas confidently – essential skills for success in an AI-driven future.

"With the 2026 expansion, LIS hopes to extend these benefits to a wider student community, reinforcing our commitment to hands-on learning and empowering young innovators," she said.
