KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- The culmination of 2024-2025 National Football Awards (ABK24-25) scheduled to be held this April will reintroduce the Best Supporter category which was last contested in the 2019 season.
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) in a statement today announced that the Best Supporter category has been reintroduced as recognition for loyal supporters who give unwavering support to their beloved team in the Malaysia League (M-League).
This development brings the total number of categories contested to 17 compared to 16 last year.
The 11-time consecutive Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have won the Best Supporter award twice in a row starting in ABK2018.
Kedah previously won the Best Supporter award in ABK2017 while Melaka won the title in ABK2016.
Meanwhile, a total of 498 players have been shortlisted based on their appearances with their respective clubs before being brought to the ABK24-25 Screening Committee to determine the 10 best players for eight categories.
The winners will be determined through a vote that will be made by 13 head coaches and 13 Super League team captains; 13 head coaches and 13 MFL Cup team captains as well as 26 media representatives.
The eight categories are Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder, Best Forward, Best Coach, Best Import Player, Best Young Player and Best MFL Player.
Nine other categories are contested, namely Most Valuable Player (MVP), Fairplay Award, Best Team, Best Goal, FAN XI, Golden Boot - MFL Cup, Golden Boot - Super League (Local), Golden Boot - Super League and Best Supporter.
For the record, JDT's prolific winger Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi won the MVP title for the third time in a row, while the Harimau Selatan squad won various categories at last year's ABK.
