CYBERJAYA, March 4 (Bernama) -- MYNIC Bhd (MYNIC), an agency under the Digital Ministry, is formulating more initiatives and programmes to further expand the use of the .MY domain both locally and internationally.
Minister Gobind Singh Deo said this was a positive step aligned with the government’s efforts to position Malaysia as a leading digital hub in the region while strengthening the country’s digital economy.
“Digitalisation is not just about technology but also about creating economic opportunities, enhancing entrepreneurs’ competitiveness, and ensuring online user security. In this era of digital transformation, using the .MY domain is a crucial step towards building a strong online brand and business presence.
“With a unique domain name that carries a national identity, local companies can reinforce their digital presence and enhance customer trust in the products and services they offer,” he said in his speech at the RevUp & Register 2024 Campaign prize presentation ceremony here today.
The text of his speech was read out by the ministry’s secretary-general Fabian Bigar.
To further strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem, Gobind said MYNIC would continue to play a more active role in providing innovative digital solutions and raising awareness of the importance of digital transformation among Malaysians.
“MYNIC has proven its capability in supporting entrepreneurial innovation and digital start-ups, as well as in educating the public on the importance of having a secure and viable digital premise,” he said.
Gobind also congratulated all the winners and MYNIC on the outstanding success of the RevUp & Register Campaign, expressing hope that more Malaysians would take the opportunity to leverage the .MY domain as part of their digital transformation.
Running from May 1 to Dec 31, 2024, the campaign aims to encourage .MY domain registrations as a step towards strengthening the digital identity of businesses and individuals in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, MYNIC chief executive officer Datuk Hasnul Fadhly Hasan said the campaign’s reception reflected the growing awareness among Malaysians of the importance of establishing a strong digital identity.
“Throughout this campaign, we have witnessed positive growth in .MY domain registrations, indicating increasing confidence in the advantages of owning a legitimate and trustworthy digital premise.
“With over 35,000 new registrations, this proves that more individuals and businesses in Malaysia are taking strategic steps to strengthen their brand in the digital space,” he said.
He added that MYNIC would continue to support the government’s digital agenda to ensure Malaysia becomes a competitive digital nation.
He also expressed confidence that with ongoing efforts, the .MY domain would remain the preferred choice for Malaysians in reinforcing their digital presence.
