BAGAN DATUK, June 14 (Bernama) -- The Bagan Datuk International Fishery Industrial Park (BDIFIP) project, involving investments exceeding RM2 billion, will be developed in phases beginning in 2027.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the BDIFIP project would be developed on a 126.4-hectare site and was expected to position Bagan Datuk as an international seafood trading hub.

“In this context, BDIFIP reflects the state government’s commitment to spearheading high-impact development in the fisheries and halal sectors, which hold strong potential to drive prosperity for the people and the state.

“The project will be implemented on land owned by the Perak Menteri Besar Corporation (MB Inc.), strategically located at the largest natural fish landing centre in the state,” he said during the BDIFIP pre-launch ceremony at Dewan Dato’ Lope Hashim here today.

The text of his speech was read by State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee.

The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament.

On 24 Nov 2023, Saarani, in a statement, said MB Inc. would collaborate with Younchang Engineering and Construction (M) Sdn Bhd and Chin Hin Group Bhd to develop the BDIFIP project, which was expected to be a key initiative to strengthen the food security agenda, particularly through the fisheries sector.

Meanwhile, Saarani said that upon completion, BDIFIP would feature a comprehensive fisheries and halal industry ecosystem, including seafood processing plants, high-tech aquaculture facilities and other infrastructure that meets international standards.

“The development of strategic infrastructure such as roads, utilities and advanced logistics systems under BDIFIP will strengthen the capabilities of the entire supply chain network, from raw materials and support services to transportation and retail,” he said.

In addition, Saarani said the project’s wide-ranging impact would generate spillover benefits for the local economy, particularly through the creation of job opportunities across various skill levels.

“This strategic investment project integrates economic, social, technological and environmental elements, forming a balanced, sustainable and comprehensive development framework for shared prosperity,” he said.
