ALOR GAJAH, July 27 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government is continuing its efforts to empower the development of sports for all segments of society, especially persons with disabilities, through a total allocation of RM90,000 this year.
State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Committee chairman Datuk V.P. Shanmugam said the allocation under the 'Perhebat OKU (Disabled) 2025’ programme will support seven key initiatives involving the development and organisation of sports programmes for the disabled sports community.
"The seven initiatives are the Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) New Talent Programme (RM14,500); Sports Tournament Participation Programme (RM11,900); Melaka Para SUKMA Contingent Training Centre Programme (RM30,000); Disabled Sports Carnival Organisation (RM8,600);
"The Special Olympics Programme (Athletics) (RM5,000); Melaka Para SUKMA Contingent Camp Organisation (RM15,000); and Melaka (Tenpin Bowling) Hearing Impaired Sports Programme (RM5,000),” he told reporters at the Alor Gajah Rakan Muda Complex here today.
He also said that the Melaka Chief Minister's Cup veterans football championships will be contested by 12 teams, involving players aged 40 and above.
