04/09/2025 06:58 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia continues to advocate for peace, stability and denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula through diplomatic and peaceful means.

In a statement on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said Malaysia reiterates its consistent support for inclusive dialogue, regional cooperation and full adherence to international law.

The ministry said a brief encounter between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un on Wednesday (Sept 3) at the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War held in Beijing was entirely coincidental.

“As already mentioned by Prime Minister himself, the Prime Minister’s handshake with the DPRK leader was a spontaneous gesture at an official event where numerous leaders were present,” the statement read.
