SEREMBAN, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The Perpatih Fest themed ‘Adat Dihayati, Warisan Dilestari’ has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the country’s longest-running Adat Perpatih Festival.

Now in its 25th year, the Perpatih Fest was first held in 2000 by the Negeri Sembilan state government through the State Museum Board as an initiative to preserve and promote Adat Perpatih (matrilineal system).

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the cultural festival plays a vital role in raising public awareness, particularly among the younger generation, about the importance of preserving and protecting cultural heritage.

“Through this initiative, it is hoped that the community will develop a deeper appreciation of the uniqueness of Adat Perpatih through diverse avenues of learning.

“The State Museum Board, as the responsible agency, must ensure that the historical and cultural heritage of Adat Perpatih is preserved through the implementation of various programmes and activities in collaboration with the customary districts, so that it can benefit the people of the state,” he said.

He made the remarks during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Perpatih Fest at the Negeri Sembilan State Museum grounds today, which was also attended by State Heritage, Malay Customs, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Action Committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli, and State Museum Board director Aziz Mohd Gorip.

Perpatih Fest 2025, held at the Negeri Sembilan State Museum until Sunday, offers a wide range of activities, including stalls representing the state’s customary districts (Luak Beradat), culinary demonstrations and sales, Chinese and Indian handicrafts, an Orang Asli cultural carnival, an inter-state food carnival, traditional games competitions, and arts and cultural performances during the Perpatih Gala Night.

In a separate development, Aminuddin also instructed the state Health and Education Departments to take immediate measures to monitor and control the spread of influenza across the state.

He emphasised that students’ health, especially that of Form Five students for the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, requires special attention.
