KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- A total of 2.67 million vehicles are expected to use major highways during peak days in conjunction with Deepavali to be celebrated on Oct 20, according to the Malaysian Highways Authority (LLM).
LLM stated that a total of 2.2 million vehicles are expected to use highways under PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), the KL-Karak Highway (170,000 vehicles), the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (90,000 vehicles), the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (40,000 vehicles), and the West Coast Expressway (170,000 vehicles).
"LLM expects an increase in traffic volume on major highways from as early as Thursday, Oct 16, 2025 for travellers heading to the North, South and East Coast," he said in a statement today.
To cope with the surge, LLM has instructed all highway concessionaires to make thorough preparations so that highway journeys are safe and smooth.
Among them is ensure there are no lane closures from Oct 17 to 23 except for emergency work, activating smart lanes at 29 locations identified on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and ensuring that the toll collection functions properly to avoid congestion at toll plazas.
LLM also welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement during the tabling of the 2026 Budget yesterday regarding a 50 per cent (pct) toll discount in conjunction with Deepavali.
