JASIN, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- The Melaka edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 not only serves as a platform for government agencies to engage directly with the community but also helps ease the public’s financial burden, particularly for Hindu devotees preparing for the Deepavali celebration, through the Rahmah MADANI Sale, which offers a range of essential goods at lower prices.
A resident of Taman Muhibah, Merlimau, K. Rawichandran, 59, said the opportunity to purchase daily necessities at reasonable prices was a great relief, especially amid the rising cost of living.
“I bought eggs, chicken, cooking oil and several other items in preparation for Deepavali. There is indeed a noticeable price difference compared to the market,” he told Bernama when met at the Rahmah MADANI Sale booth here today.
He said the programme not only made it easier for the community to obtain fresh goods at affordable prices, but also encouraged consumers to spend prudently.
“My house is just nearby, so when I found out there was a Rahmah Sale held in conjunction with the PMR, I came straight away to make some purchases. Many items were sold at cheaper prices, so I took the opportunity to buy early for Deepavali and save some money,” he said.
Another visitor, M. Krishnama, 58, who attended the event with her children and grandchildren, said the atmosphere at the sale was lively and made preparations for the Festival of Lights easier.
“I found the place beautiful, and there were plenty of items sold at affordable prices. It was a joyful experience, especially for us who are celebrating Deepavali. I bought food items to serve our guests later,” said Krishnama, who has three children.
Meanwhile, self-employed R. Kisnaraj, 27, said the Rahmah MADANI Sale offered a variety of goods at attractive discounts.
“I came to see the exhibitions and buy kitchen items for Deepavali because all the prices are discounted. For example, a whole chicken costs only RM10, and other kitchen essentials are also cheaper. This programme really helps the Indian community save money.
“I hope the PMR in Melaka will be held again as initiatives like this truly benefit many families, especially during festive seasons,” said Kisnaraj, who will be celebrating Deepavali in Merlimau.
The three-day Melaka PMR 2025, which began yesterday, features a variety of engaging activities including community outreach programmes, agency exhibitions and defence demonstrations.
Held at Politeknik Merlimau, Jasin, the event carries the theme ‘Aspirasi MADANI: Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara’ and is organised by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Melaka government.
